Jane’s Walk: Hydrophobia 19826 - 1926: An illustrated History of Ottawa’s Aversion to Water(fronts)

Veteran Jane’s Walk tour leader Dennis Van Staalduinen will lead us on a lively and interactive storytelling walk to explore the development of Ottawa's relationship with its various waterfronts. Offering visual evidence from dozens of old maps, postcards, texts, and photographs, Dennis will trace the steps of the devolving relationship – from initial infatuation in 1826 to deeply dysfunctional by 1926. The next century (1926-2026) suggests some reversal, with recent efforts by the community to re-embrace the waterfronts and even find some signs of hope for the future.
