Presented by Carleton University’s Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism
Drawing on more than three decades of practice, KPMB Partner Mitchell Hall will reflect on architecture’s ability to enrich everyday life and respond to the changing needs of people, institutions, and communities.
Through a selection of projects spanning culture, healthcare, science, and public space, Mitchell will share the stories, ideas, and collaborations that have shaped his career. From transforming historic buildings at Canada’s National Ballet School and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, to bringing architecture and nature together at The Leaf at Assiniboine Park, he will explore how each project began with a unique set of challenges and how those challenges opened the door to new possibilities.
Mitchell will also look at the role architecture can play in supporting discovery and innovation through CAMH’s Temerty Discovery Centre and the Mike & Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum-Nano Centre, considering how buildings can bring people together and create environments where new ideas can flourish.
Along the way, Mitchell will share lessons from his career about what makes ambitious projects possible: strong relationships, shared goals, curiosity, collaboration, and perseverance. Together, these projects offer a reflection on the pursuit of meaningful architecture and the opportunity to create places that make a lasting difference in people’s lives.
